Italy plans to severely reduce the number of tourists visiting the Cinque Terre UN world heritage area this summer because the rugged coastal area risks being wrecked by coach parties and cruise ships.

We look forward to assisting the North Shore community regarding the issue of overcrowding at Ho'okipa Beach Park. Although the site offers a great perspective of Maui coastline, the parking and facilities lack the ability to host the amount of vehicles and individuals that currently pay visit to the park on a daily basis. In addition, the turtle nesting site has been a subject of concern based on the attraction it has become.

The interest has grown therefore we are in the process of securing a larger venue to be set at a most convenient time for the majority of East Maui residents to participate. We look forward to gathering resident perspective of the issues affecting Hana Highway.

The Hana Highway, particularly the portion that stretches from Paia to Hana, is scenic and popular, but that appeal among tourists is causing problems that appear to be escalating, as motorists slow or stop to take pictures or park on both sides of the highway, including its narrow bottlenecks.
